How Tankless Water Heaters Work
Traditionally most homes have a traditional tank-type water heater that holds between 40-60 gallons of hot water. A tankless water heater does not store water. Instead, the water is heated continuously as it passes through a heat exchanger between the water supply and the tap. The heating mechanism is only invoked when the hot water tap is turned on. This is why tankless water heaters are sometimes referred to as “on-demand” heaters.
How a Navien Tankless Water Heater Works
Navien's Condensing tankless water heaters can provide you with an endless supply of hot water. Navien's Condensing tankless water heaters provide hot water on demand. Navien achieves this by activating the unit the second you open a hot water tap, supplying you with an endless supply of hot water.
Conventional tank-type water heaters eventually run out of hot water when you take multiple draws in a row from the tank.
Since Navien Condensing tankless water heaters only provide hot water when you need it and can provide an endless supply of hot water, you never have to worry about running out of hot water no matter how many hot water draws you have in a row.
Navien’s Eco Burner technology utilizes a premixed burner that burns with the shortest flame. This dramatically reduces the CO (carbon monoxide) as well as NOx (nitrogen oxides) with the minimum use of gas and air by optimally premixing them in advance. Lean-Rich (or Advanced Atmospheric) burners or conventional atmospheric burners used in conventional water heaters only check the amount of gas while using lots of air, thus emitting great amounts of global warming air pollutants such as CO or NOx.
Navien utilizes “condensing technology,” giving our tankless water heaters a 0.97 Energy Factor compared to 0.92-0.95 for other condensing brands, 0.82 for conventional tankless heaters, and 0.55 for tank water heaters. This rating is possible due to Navien’s state-of-the-art stainless-steel condensing heat exchanger that traps the condensation from incoming cold water cooling the hot gases inside the unit. This condensation would normally escape and be lost, but once the condensation is trapped in Navien’s heat exchanger it is reused by the Water Heaters making the whole process the most efficient and economical on the market today.
Navien’s ComfortFlow technology is an advanced system designed to provide the most comfortable and seamless delivery of hot water on the market. Utilizing an internal insulated buffer tank and a recirculation pump, Navien is the only tankless water heater that eliminates the “cold water sandwich” phenomenon. You will never have to worry about a cold slug in the line or wait at the tap for the hot water to get to you. That means less water down the drain while you wait, less money out of your pocket.
